- Moratorium on Tuition Fee Increase for at least 2 years
As the KCC Student Congress will have a representative to the University of Hawaii Student Caucus, the mother organization of the UH System Student Governments, I will carefully plan, lobby and propose a moratorium on tuition fee hikes for at least 2 years, the School Years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 on all UH System schools (3 Universities and 8 Community Colleges), to ease the tight economic situation that students and parents are currently experiencing.
- Creation of an active Student Health Services in KCC
I will advocate for a creation of an active Department of Student Health Services (SHS) in our campus. Not all KCC students have their own medical insurance, and there is a policy of KCC to refer needed students to the University Health Services Manoa (UHSM). Because not all KCC students have emergency access of transportation to UH-Manoa and can be treated at once. The SHS will provide first-aid treatments and other services relating to any minor medical emergencies. I will also propose to include our College’s Department of Nursing with its clinical instructors and senior students to be exposed in any emergency scenarios and may partner with our neighboring health institutions, such as Diamond Head Health Center and Waikiki Health Center for any medical and training assistance.
- Extended Opportunity Programs and Services
I will advocate more help with students that needs financial assistance in finishing their studies at KCC. Low income and educationally disadvantaged students will be helped in any of their needs, such as Counseling whether it may be professional counseling, educational counseling, peer advising and assesments; Direct financial assistance and Instructional support services such as one on one tutoring.
- Creation of the Office of the Ombudsman
I am going to legislate an independent Office of the Ombudsman for any investigations for any anomalies regarding any past or present projects implemented by the Student Government.
- Creation of a position of the Auditor
I am going to push for a creation of a position of an Auditor in the KCC Student Charter for more transparency in how the government uses student’s moneys.
- Creation of Student Congress webpage
I will actively advocate a creation of the Student Congress webpage for all KCC students to access and for them to be informed on what their elected and appointed representatives are currently legislating and advocating.
- Student Community Outreach Programs (SCOP)
I will advocate for an active Student Community Outreach Programs (SCOP) to help students be aware on the needs of the communities especially in the part that our campus is located. Student Community Leadership will be stressed and project awareness to the students of KCC on the problems of homelessness, hunger and poverty in the Honolulu community and the state must be addressed. The program aims to partner with governmental and non-governmental agencies such as the Hawai’i Food Bank in fighting the common enemy of poverty and hunger in the community.
